Student Seminar UK

Seminar Creative Clusters UK

Being in a different country than your own, even when it is for a short period of time, always is an interesting experience. However, when you get to meet people that are almost true experts on the development of ‘the’ new economy, the economy that is probably our future work field, you realize that this was a chance of a lifetime. Especially because all the experts we met were open for suggestions, discussion and all the questions that came to mind. Most of them even gave us a tour of the creative part of their ‘own’ city.

The fact that we were able to see the creative industry as a physical place, rather than it being an abstract term was a real eye-opener. In each place we visited, the creative part of the city was a changing and vibrant place where you could truly see the potential and growth. This doesn’t mean that all the places were alike. Each city has it’s own history, that is still visible and has an effect on the creative industry. One thing Huddersfield, Manchester, Sheffield and Liverpool have in common, is the amount of initiatives that are present for stimulating the creative industry. These initiatives are real, ‘proper’ businesses that take their tasks seriously. They have truly made it their mission to build up a new and better industry for themselves and their city. I hope to be getting back to England in a few years, to see how everybody and everything is doing, and how all the places have developed.
